Confirmation of physiological race of Bipolaris maydis causing maydis leaf blight of maize in India

چکیده

Maydis leaf blight (MLB) incited by Bipolaris maydis occurs in most of the maize growing regions. Present study revealed morphological divergence among 74 isolates B. collected from geographically distant places India. Based on morpho-cultural features clustered R software, 25 representative were used for race identification. The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequence further confirmed as maydis. In recent concept, variation disease incidence and infectivity denotes genetic shift pathogen or introduction new pathogenic race(s) through germplasm exchange. For unveiling Indian maydis, present exploration was made. Four genetically divergent genotypes with cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS), viz. -C (MGU- 161QPV-C), -T 345PV-T), -S (MGU-150Q-S) CM-119 (fertile cytoplasm) assessed using during kharif 2018-19 at ICAR-IARI, New Delhi. genotype MGU-161QPV-C associated CMS-C highly resistant followed MGU-345PV-T (CMS-T) MGU-150Q-S (CMS-S), whereas showed high susceptibility. outcome prevalence 'O' India eliminated uncertainty about occurrence other races, i.e. T C.

Efficacy of Newer Molecules, Bioagents and Botanicals against Maydis Leaf Blight and Banded Leaf and Sheath Blight of Maize

Maize (Zea mays L.; 2N=20) is major staple food crop grown worldwide adapted to several biotic and abiotic stresses. Maydis leaf blight (MLB) and banded leaf and sheath blight (BLSB) are serious foliar fungal diseases may cause up to 40% and 100% grain yield loss, respectively. The present studies were undertaken to work out the efficacy of chemicals, botanicals and bioagents for the management...

Aggressiveness of Cephalosporium maydis causing late wilt of maize in Spain.

Late wilt of maize, caused by the vascular and soilborne pathogen Cephalosporium maydis, was identified in the Iberian Peninsula in 2008. During the last years the incidence and economical impact of the disease has importantly increased both in Portugal and Spain. Varieties of maize displaying tolerance to the pathogen are available, but the effectiveness can be dependent on the virulence of th...

Effect of Sodium Bisulfite on Peroxidase Activity and Electrolyte Leakage in Maize in Relation to Sporulation of Bipolaris maydis

In this study, we sought to determine whether the increases in peroxidase activity and electrolyte leakage induced in maize (Zea mays L.) leaves by sodium bisulfite were causally related to the sodium bisulfite-induced increases in sporulation of the pathogen Bipolaris maydis race T on infected maize leaves. Pretreatment of detached leaves of maize inbred W64 A with sodium bisulfite (500 |ig/ml...

Electrophoretic Comparison of Mitochondrial Polypeptides from Maize Lines Susceptible and Resistant to Helminthosporium maydis Race T.

The mitochondrial polypeptides from maize lines susceptible and resistant to Helminthosporium maydis were studied by single- and two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. Approximately 120 polypeptides were detected by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. However, it was not possible to detect qualitative differences between the mitochondrial polypeptides of the two inbreds. These observations are d...

Mode of Methomyl and Bipolaris maydis (race T) Toxin in Uncoupling Texas Male-Sterile Cytoplasm Corn Mitochondria.

Bipolaris maydis race T toxin (BmT), and its functional analog, methomyl, uncoupled Texas male-sterile (T) cytoplasm mitochondria by decreasing the resistance of the inner membrane to protons. However, unlike protonophoric or ionophoric agents, BmT toxin and methomyl induced irreversible swelling. Packed volume measurements showed that mitochondrial volume was irreversibly increased by methomyl...
